Utilising our skills and expertise to develop innovative products for the global market.
John William Parkes Director is a Multi-Disciplinary Engineer with a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, he has 25 years experience in Civil Engineering, Building, Explosive and Utility sectors. After graduating Heriot-Watt University in 1994 he worked initially for the O’ Rourke Group one of the UK’s largest reinforced concrete contractors. He then joined the family business in Explosive suppression Product Development. He established a Limited company in 2000 to encompass his work in construction and the defence sector. Working on many major Civil Engineering projects in many B2B arrangements which have extended to many years. This a testament to his adaptability and the value that his business partners place on him being part of their organisations. His current engagement in differing roles within Scottish Borders Council is now approaching 10 years. His ability to develop and manufacture bespoke systems to control the unwanted effects of explosives and his intuitive problem solving have been tested with great success. From explosive demolition to explosive mitigation systems for the UK MOD against some of the most technical advanced and effective munitions he has exceeded client’s expectations. He continues to undertake R&D in relation to furthering the technology. John has a wealth of experience over many disciplines allowing him to devise solutions encompassing all key outcomes including aesthetics, buildability, functionality and economic. He can also take the lead and project manage in the field to secure successful outcomes.
John Parkes Snr left the Royal Engineers in 1970 after a distinguished career receiving a certificate of commendation for his service in Aden. In leaving the service he developed associations with demolition companies, utilising explosives to demolish redundant and dangerous buildings. He widened his business to incorporate the recovery and recycling of materials including wood; architectural stonework and re-usable structural steel. In 1994 after hearing about the tragic death of Mrs. Helen Tinney due to ejecta from a high-rise demolition, he developed water-based explosive suppression systems. He intuitively addressed the practical aspects of using water and was successful in a wide range of explosive trials.
Evan Parkes holds qualifications in both Performing Engineering Operations and Engineering Systems. He holds a HNC in Mechanical Engineering now working toward a HND. Joined the family business to support increasing its digital footprint and overall exposure. Utilising CAD (Solidworks) to advance the design of new systems. Develop and manage the company’s website and post on mainstream social media and industry platforms.
