Secured by Contracts Manager of Lagan Construction previously Site Agent for Raynesway to provide Engineering Services. First Contract was on the Airdrie to Bathgate (A2B) rail line installing a 450mm and 500mm trunk mains to service Livingston area over a newly constructed rail bridge. Controlled material and plant orders; matters of health and safety; client and principle contractor liaison. The job required to be carried out in the railway environment and materials were required to be moved during railway possessions. On the basis of the success of the contract and the experience in working on the project Lagan were awarded the remaining diversionary work on the A2B projected to be worth £2M. It was stated by the client Scottish Water that this was based on the difference we had made to the project. The Regional Manager approached me due to the good working relationship with the Scottish Water Project Managers and positive feedback and asked if I would lead their SW contracts. I agreed and became the Project Manager responsible for leading the design team in proposing solutions to the temporary and permanent diversions of all the SW assets along the proposed route of the A2B. I attended and contributed in a positive manner at SW operations meetings and also at Network Rail meetings. I was requested by the Scottish Water's Project Manager to represent SW at a NR meeting in her absence. I was thanked by the NR Project Manager responsible for planning when it was handed over to his operational counterpart. I was asked to carry out an overview on a sewer project that had been left for 3 years and was prohibiting the release of funds to be paid on beneficial use. A break manhole in a domestic garden on occasions was over topping causing a nuisance and environmental incident adjacent to the River Tweed. The proposed design was onerous and would require a large section of trees to be felled and substantial preparatory works to allow it to be completed. John Parkes Jnr attended a meeting with the Design Engineer Grontmij and discussed his own proposal and in their words ‘I am inspired by your proposal and approach’. On this basis my design was adopted and proposed to SW. I produced a presentation on my proposed methodology and pitched it to the Regional Manager and Contracts Manager for Lagan. The completed presentation was pitched to Scottish Water and a fixed price contract was awarded for the works. The works was completed on time and within budget and SW released the £3M retained to SW CID and the project was handed over. John took up responsibility for the execution of the A2B projects, required to operate COINS for all contract material and plant orders. Produce H&S related documents including method statements, risk assessments and construction phase health and safety plans. He was also required to work with EPS the M&E joint venture delivery partner of Lagan to complete the upgrading of Carbarns WwTW to meet its current discharge consents. I was also required to discuss varying the design to overcome physical obstructions in the ground during the works. On completion of my contract Scottish Water’s Project Manager gave me an introduction to another delivery partner with her recommendation. Clancy Docwra. Scottish Water delivery partner Q&S III Providing Engineering control on two Scottish Water contracts Loganbarns SPS and Torthorwald WwTW. An active participant in site based discussions on how works should be progressed. Initially contracted for 2 weeks the assignment lasted for 20 weeks. The Contracts Manager has recommended my services to an employment agency that are placing staff with contractors involved in Scottish Waters Q&S III B allocation.
